Welcome to OrthodoxLiterature.com. This is a place where you can get all of your authentic early christian writings that are canonical and are engraved into the Holy Tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church; that is, all autocephalous or self-ruling Eastern Orthodox churches in ecumenical communion.

Mission

I am simply a servant of the Most High God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I have no "personal" mission to evangelize, or to create divisions among Christian believers. However, there are many "early christian writings" today that claim to hold the Truth about the early Christian church. One example I can bring to mind is a Gnostic exposition called "The Gospel of Judas". Both the Orthodox church and the Roman Catholic church has maintained its heretical nature, and does not belong in the Traditions of early Christian writings; nor does it deserve the title "Gospel".

I simply aim to provide a well-compiled online library for Orthodox Christians to read, unobstructed by doubts and fear of what they might be reading (with regards to orthodoxy). My goal, for now, is to take the best and well known texts of proven Witnesses of God and provide accessibility to them. I will for the vast majority of the texts, refrain from editing the contents, and adding annotations to and from these texts.

A simple overview of the works I wish to include follows.

  • The Divine Liturgy of Sts. John Crysostom and Basil the Great (greek, russian, arabic, and english)
  • A list of liturgical daily prayers, prayers for special needs, etc.
  • A complete collection of the Ante-Nicene, Nicene, and Post Nicene Fathers, for example:
    • Clement of Rome, Mathetes, Polycarp, Ignatius, Barnabas, Papias, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus
    • Hermas, Tatian, Theophilus, Athenagoras, Clement of Alexandria
    • Gregory Thaumaturgus; Dinoysius the Great; Julius Africanus; Anatolius and Minor Writers; Methodius; Arnobius
    • The list goes on...
  • Biographies and public domain Iconographies of each Saint presented in these texts as well as for the whole of the Orthodox Church, including North and South American, Greek, Russian, and Arabic Saints.

Thank you and God bless. Please, enjoy.

News

October 9, 2010
It has been a year since I last updated. This update includes some nifty background images and some neat functions for easier browsing. Namely, by looking at a hole chapter in the Bibles section, you can check or uncheck the "Scroll to verse on verse select". This will either scroll the browser to the verse, if checked, or simply highlight the verse (a new addition as well), if unchecked.

The future will bring the Liturgies of Sts. John Chrysostomos and Basil the Great, followed by the offices of divine services for Matins, Vespers, Compline, Midnight Office, Hours, Typika -- all with their festal variants. After this, I will include common prokeimena, the canticles, information regarding the Octoechos, Menaion, Triodion, and Pentecastarion.

Needless to say, the content for all of next update will take quite some time and will be pretty huge. Your prayers!

The Bibles section is updated with fifteen (15) public domain translations of the Bible. Please note that no one Bible is put forth as "the best translation". When in doubt, do a lot of cross referencing. I will be cleaning up some of the data to perform well with this site.
